Homeopathy versus Conventional Allopathic medications.
I have often been asked to explain why homeopathy is preferred to conventional allopathic medications in the treatment of tinnitus. For this reason I have been doing some research and reading and have compiled a report that will hopefully clear up some of the questions you may have regarding homeopathy.
Homeopathy is not an overnight miracle treatment, but rather a slow process that needs patience and persistence to work. At T-Gone Remedies, we have found that those patients who have persisted with the treatments, and stuck to the do's and don'ts as listed below , have had very good success in the relieving their tinnitus.
Homeopathy versus conventional allopathic medications.
Although homeopathy has been around for 200 years, it has only recently begun to challenge the comfortable position that conventional (allopathic) medicine has in modern society.
Homeopathy is particularly popular in France, England, Germany Greece, Pakistan, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico. In India there are reportedly 100 000 practising homeopaths and 120 homeopathic schools offering four-year courses for would-be practitioners.
According to the Allied Health Professionals Council of South Africa, there are at present 631 registered practising homeopaths in South Africa, of which an estimated 130 are also medical doctors.
What is homeopathy, and how does it work?
Homeopathy is a scientific and natural system of healing that aims to treat the whole person by using natural remedies that boost the body's own ability to heal and correct any imbalances. Based on the Law of Similars, a homeopath seeks to find a substance which, in overdose, would mimic symptoms akin to those a sick person is experiencing.
When the match is made, that substance is given to the patient in minute, safe doses.
Dr Samuel Hahnemann was the first to observe that plant, animal and herb substances capable of causing disease in healthy people can be used in diluted form to treat people with similar symptoms. Based on this observation, a process of dilution and 'potentisation' was developed to make homeopathic remedies.
A homeopathic remedy consists of a 'signature' from a particular substance, such as a plant.
To obtain this signature the plant substance is diluted with 99 parts distilled water or ethyl alcohol. This is repeated many times over. This process of dilution is accompanied by a procedure called succussion, which imprints the energetic signature of the plant on the water molecules.
It is this signature that gets carried through and potentised. As the plant molecules decrease with continued dilution, the signature gets stronger until the remedy has no measurable trace of the plant left.
Thus the remedy is potent without any toxicity.
According to homeopath and general practitioner Dr David Nye, homeopathy needs to be differentiated from herbal treatment, which is also natural but not always safe.
'With herbs you are using a plant in a natural form and it is having a physiological effect on the body' he says. 'Herbs can increase the heart rate or decrease breast milk ... they can have many different specific effects on the physiology of the body.
But because of the way the homeopathic remedy has been potentised and diluted, it no longer works at the physiological level.'
'Homeopathy works on a vibrational or energetic level in the body'.
Nye says that although some of the substances used to make homeopathic remedies are toxic in their undiluted state, once they have been through the processes of dilution and potentisation they are 100% sate and have few side effects if administered correctly.
How do homeopathy and allopathy differ in terms of diagnosis?
In a homeopathic consultation, the homeopath takes a detailed case history not only of the patient's symptoms, but also of his development milestones, personality likes and dislikes, fears and general behavior.
Using all this information, he will prescribe one or more remedies, the drug picture of which most closely matches the total picture of the patient.
The expected outcome is not only relief of symptoms hut a cure from the inside out.
... and in treatment?
The word "allopathy" means treating by opposites, while "homeopathy" means treating by the same.
'In conventional medicine, if you have an infection you would use an antibiotic. If you have an inflammation, you would lake an anti-inflammatory - you treat with the opposite of your condition.
When the body displays symptoms, conventional medicine attempts to suppress or counteract those symptoms.'
'Homeopathy is a wonderful method of treatment because it has few side effects and works very quickly especially in babies because their systems are clean', Nye maintains.
He believes homeopathy can treat most conditions and, in the case of babies, is effective in dealing with teething problems, nappy rash, colic and other day-to-day ailments, as well as more serious illnesses such as recurring colds, chest infections, ear infections, tonsillitis, lever, diarrhea and vomiting.
What do practitioners on both sides feel?
The debate between the efficacy of either allopathy or homeopathy is one littered with controversies, most centered on the difference in the methodologies of treatment and diagnosis.
Although most doctors seem to support their patients using homeopathy they do have some reservations about the ability of homeopaths without medical training to handle acute situations.
Whereas most homeopaths are aware of the capabilities of a trained doctor, doctors are often unsure about what a homeopath's training enables him to deal with.
Dr Francesca Swainston, a homeopath who runs a clinic for children, says that there is such a panic about treating childhood diseases that the body's line of defense is often interfered with.
'Conventional medicine addresses the micro-organisms but does not strengthen the body through the disease.'
Homeopathy is a methodology - a way of looking at the whole person and treating the whole person rather than alleviating physical symptoms.
'Parents should try to treat the child before the disease goes too far and invasive treatments such as antibiotics need to he used,' she says.
Swainston believes that although homeopathy is a better and faster method of treatment, allopathy cannot be disregarded and can be used in tandem with homeopathy.
'These days, that's what happens in probably 90% of situations; very few people use only homeopathy' she says, 'and it's better to use both than not to use homeopathic remedies at all. The homeopathic remedy will be treating the whole patient while the conventional medicine is addressing the micro-organisms.'
Pediatrician Dr Adri van der Walt believes that while homeopathy has a valid place in the health sciences, she is wary of one practice being labeled holistic in comparison with the other.
'I think a lot of us (allopaths) try to treat our patients holistically. You look at the whole family, and you look at the whole process. It's not just a case of treating a headache.'
Van der Walt says that many of her patients consult both her and a homeopath. 'It is not true that one practice excludes the other,' she says, 'and I don't think the approach should be whether one approach is better than the other.
Instead, we should be looking at how to combine them effectively'.
Van der Walt's sentiments are common in a society where a growing number of doctors are training to be homeopaths, and many doctors are encountering patients who want an alternative solutions or treatment.
Homeopathy is frequently what they turn to. Van der Walt's only concern with this approach is that 'it could lead to a patient flitting from treatment to treatment, not sticking with one long enough to see real results, thereby losing sight of what the real problem is'.
'Homeopathy is not a quick fix, and often patience and persistence are needed'.
GP Nashareen Morris agrees that homeopathy and allopathic medicine can work in tandem. She is happy to refer patients to homeopaths when she feels there is an alternative solution she may not be able to offer.
'I have referred a lot of my adult patients to homeopaths who are also medical doctors, and sometimes I send patients to other medical doctors with some knowledge of homeopathy. When the patient has consulted a lot of doctors already and there is nothing I or any other medical doctor can do for them, I always refer them.
80% of patients in that position will ask for an alternative treatment.'
While Nye understands that doctors would rather first exhaust every medical option available, he believes that homeopathy should be introduced much earlier on in the treatment process.
'Generally I like to believe that the first point of call should be homeopathy, because homeopathy won't block or suppress the body's symptoms, which can make the disease more difficult to treat. If you are not having any success with homeopathy then you can always fall back on conventional treatment.
'If ones immune system is so weakened that it cannot react or respond to a homeopathic remedy then you may need an antibiotic, and it may be life-saving. But conventional medicine should not necessarily be the first thing that one jumps at. There are gentler ways, and homeopathy is one of them,' he says.
Do's and Don'ts whilst taking T-Gone Tinnitus Remedies
The Remedies may become inactive if exposed to sunlight, heat, strong odors (like camphor, strong peppermints, menthol etc.)
Alcohol in moderate amounts will not affect the remedies.
Certain medications such as cortisone or its derivatives can neutralize the remedies somewhat, but most (such as most arid hypertensives) will not affect the remedies.
T-Gone Tinnitus Remedies will not neutralize or hamper the workings of conventional allopathic medications, but other homeopathic remedies may neutralize or may be incompatible with T-Gone ® Tinnitus Remedies and should not be taken in conjunction with them.
The Remedies, being homeopathic, will not cause any side effects whatsoever.
Store away from light and heat (e.g. in a drawer or cupboard).
Here is a list of foods and drinks to avoid whilst taking the tinnitus remedies.
- Peppermints
- Chocolate this includes cake, desserts, hot and cold drinks (such as Cocoa, Hot Chocolate, Chocolate Milkshakes) One may however, have small amounts of white chocolate.
- Coffee, this includes Iced Coffee, Coffee flavored drinks, cakes, etc.Cola, this covers all brown colored drinks, such as coca cola, pepsi and includes even the diet versions, such as coke light etc.Under no circumstances should any decaffeinated products be consumed, these contain ingredients, that would neutralize the remedies.
- This definitely includes decaffeinated coffee. If one really feels the need for an occasional cup of coffee, please have the normal coffee and not DECAFFEINATED and try to keep it to one cup a day.
Toothpaste will not affect the efficacy of the remedies. The remedies are all white and look similar since they have a base of lactose (sugar of milk).
We use lactose/sucrose because for the vast majority of individuals, lactose is not known to be allergenic, have side effects, nor cause any harm.
For individuals with lactose intolerance, we use a fructose (sugar of fruit) base.
We do not use colorants, preservatives, emulsifiers or flavoring products because as they do have some side effects and can be harmful to certain people.
The different remedies are absorbed onto the lactose. Even though they look and taste alike, each T-Gone ® Tinnitus Remedy contains completely different ingredients, so that each type of Tinnitus sufferer has a different composite of remedies.
Sometimes the remedies seem to clog or melt, especially in warmer weather. This is not a problem and approximately the correct amount of powder can still safely be taken.
There are no side effects.
Try to eat mainly fruit, vegetables, salads and grains. Make sure you get enough rest. This is a general rule for good health.
Please know that we will do our utmost to help your restore your health. As a general rule of thumb, it should take approximately one month to provide complete relief from Tinnitus for every year that you’ve suffered from the condition. You will, however, see a substantial lessening of the symptoms within the first two months.
You must be determined to succeed and to go the extra mile, and you will succeed. Know that we want you to overcome the Tinnitus as much as you do. You do have power and responsibility over your health.
Follow a good diet and try to follow these guidelines as closely as possible. Avoid all situations that could aggravate your Tinnitus.
Whilst you are taking the remedies, it is helpful, though not crucial, to take two teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar with two teaspoonfuls of pure honey in a little water every morning, and also two teaspoonfuls of an oil containing gamma linoleic acid such as Evening Primrose Oil. This you could get at most health stores and pharmacies.
These both help with arteriosclerosis, which tends to aggravate Tinnitus.
As in most things worthwhile, perseverance is the key to achieving the desired results with T-Gone Tinnitus Remedies.
I would encourage you to write in and share your tinnitus experiences with us. It is also very helpful for the skeptics out there to read about the successes you are having.
