Self help is initiated as a person recognizes that there is a problem and certain steps have to be taken to address the problem. By recognizing your own problem you accept the fact that you are in trouble and you need help. But self help focuses on the help that you can do to the problem you are experiencing.

    The things that can be done to address your problem are changing your own behavior, thoughts, and feelings. Self help is consciously acknowledging the presence of the problem and doing something about it by making self improvements.

    Some people may find it odd to solve problems by using self help as most of us are used to addressing problems by getting help from other people. This is because it is other people or the people around us are the ones who are most likely to notice and tell us that there is a problem and something needs to be done about it.

    While self help may be an extremely odd way to solving problems for some, it may also appear as very simple or common to some. Some people don't even notice that they are already doing self help when they are projecting what would be the result of their certain actions.

    We often tend to ignore that we are the ones who have the biggest influence in our own lives. Whenever we are beleaguered by problems we always feel that we can do nothing about it because it is something that is caused by forces in our environment. A few of us recognize that most of those problems are results of our own actions.

    Most of us do not recognize that the best help that we can give to ourselves when we have problems is by helping ourselves. We have the best solutions to solve our problems and no matter how others may try to help us in solving our problems, it is still our willingness to cooperate that counts that comes within ourselves.
