A few weeks ago I began to get a high pitched sound in my right ear at night, which i either didnt notice or didnt exist in the daytime. (I am pretty close to deaf in my left ear so if the ringing exists on that side of my head, i do not know about it.)

It would appear quite suddenly almost as soon as i turned the lights off to go to bed, but after a few minutes it seemed to go away only to reappear the next night. It did this for awhile, but it never got severe enough where i couldnt ignore it if i tried, and it seemed to go away completely over the weekends or whenever i was home instead of college.

It seemed to actually be going away, but last friday it came full force at night before i was ready for bed and took a long time to settle to point where i could sleep. Since then it has appeared during the day off and on and of course at night as well. I also had a cold that lasted from around thursday and is pretty much gone now, although i do still feel some congestion in my head now and then.

The only way that ill really hear it when it is on during the day is if i cover my ear with my hand, so it is pretty faint at the moment, but at night it seems to increase. I currently feel like there is a congestion or blockage in my ear which i think is just the last leg of the cold. I hope that i am describing this tinnitus right, it isnt easy to convey how varied it has been.

I feel as though the type i have could be stress induced becuase the descriptions of what you list that i would hear are, i think the closest to what i do actually hear, -- i also feel that it could be allergy sinus related: I do suffer from seasonal allergies but the noises listed under that heading, i feel are not what i hear except that i, on occassion will get a brief ringing in my ear for a few seconds and then go away, this has been around for a few years.

I am currently a senior in college and i dont feel like im under any more stress than i have been the past four years, nor do i think my allergies have changed at all but ill leave every option on the table.
THis kind of thing has never occurred before in my collective memory, i have frequented concerts in the past, and after one gave me a ringing in my ears that lasted for a day, about 3 years ago, i make sure to always take precautions. It has just worried me how this current ear ringing has come seemingly out of nowhere, and i would appreciate any advice you can give me on the subject.

Dear Ian,

I thank you for the excellent description of your tinnitus and the history behind it. The more information that I have the easier it is for me to pinpoint the root cause of your tinnitus and then I can confidently recommend the correct tinnitus relief remedy in order for you to get effective relief from your tinnitus.

I have absolutely no doubt that there is damage to the inner ear structures and this is causing your tinnitus. The inner ear structures are extremely sensitive and delicate therefore damage can happen quite easily. This is cochlear damage and always eventually results in tinnitus.

One can have cochlea damage without realizing it because the tinnitus is often only triggered off at a much later stage and can even be triggered by completely unrelated events.I believe that you have definitely suffered cochlea damage as a result of a couple of things - firstly your exposure to loud music at concerts - you did mention that the first time you noticed this noise/ringing in the ears was after you had attended a concert.

Even although the ringing in your ears only lasted a day this was the start of it.
