Hissing Tinnitus Noises ...
Timothy's tinnitus question:
I have had tinnitus for approx 30 years. It resembles a hissing sound in both ears as if air was being expelled from an automobile tyre (tire!) I was born and lived in Africa (Kenya) and had quinine frequently to treat malaria there.
I also suffered from bleeding ithe ears as a result of mastoid problems in the left ear at 9/10 years for which I had penicillin.
I now wear biaural hearing aids but the tinnitus persists although better with the aids. There is associated hearing deficit, particularly in the left ear.
I am 67 years of age with hearing loss tinnitus, and still in work, which requires a great deal of listening and writing ! Any hope for an improvement?
I still suffer from the stressful aspects of life and work as well as the tinnitus and hearing loss.

Our reponse:
Hello Timmothy,
Those hissing sounds you are hearing are typical of cochlear damage tinnitus.
A little known fact is that there are literally millions of minuscule nerve endings inside the cochlea that get very stimulated by the pressure of loud noise.
As and when noises is recognized by your ear and these auditory hairs wave around, electrical impulses are sent via the auditory nerve which your brain figures out to be a sound.
Stimulation stimulates a manouvering of all those delicate nerve cells, which is similar to a wheat field stirring in time to the wind blowing.
Those millions of tiny hairs and these delicate nerves get damaged easily when you are exposed sudden to loud noise. The inner ear damage is automatically amplified if you listen to your mp3 player at loud volumes for extended periods.
The hair cells and nerves are damaged and bent as a result of a severe blow to the head. Your auditory hairs often get bent out of shape or even broken off then they send random pulses directly to the brain which interprets them as a noise, though there is none.
Some form of cochlear damage leading to tinitis often is caused by ear wax treatments gone wrong, ear candling, swimming pool accidents, playing sports, surgery to the head and can also be caused by middle ear infections.
Hearing loss is definitely permanent however the tinnitis remedies have proved to be extremely successful at dramatically and permanently lowering the ear ringing levels that resulted from damage to the cochlea.
This treatment should help you fairly quickly reduce the hissing noises.
