I noticed the ringing when I was about 4 months pregnant. I saw an ear, nose and throat Dr. and my hearing was tested. I have some loss in my left ear- not enough that I noticed. My Dr. had not heard of this being a hormonal thing but we waited to see if after birth it would stop.
It hasn't. It is constant, the only thing that changes is the volume of the high pitch ringing. When I'm exhausted, it is louder than normal. I am sometimes surprised that someone sitting next to me can't hear it too! I hear buzzing of lights, humming of ceiling fans, ...that others don't 'hear' til I mention how the noise is driving me crazy.Thanks for what you may offer as relief.

I am really sorry to hear that your tinnitus started when you were 4 months pregnant. It is hard enough coping with the hormonal swings and the physical and emotional changes to the body that one experiences during pregnancy and then on top of all that you had this ringing to contend with as well!! - What we have to go through as women! Anyway congratulations on the birth of the little one and I will most certainly try to do my best to help you get alleviation from this noise which is tinnitus.
Your doctor was quite right pregnancy and hormones do not normally cause tinnitus. In order to get effective relief from tinnitus it is necessary to identify and treat the root cause of one's tinnitus. It seems very likely that your tinnitus was triggered as a result of the hormonal changes whilst expecting but this was not the root cause of the tinnitus.
Often one can suffer from some kind of damage that is actually the root cause of tinnitus but the noise/ringing in the ears will often only be triggered off at a much later stage and this can be triggered by a completely unrelated event - such as stress etc.
Beth, it is common for the intensity of one's tinnitus to increase as the body becomes tired.
