The head noises and tinnitus that you are experiencing is probably due to cochlear damage. Tinnitus from cochlear damage is also accompanied by high frequency hearing loss. This particular type of tinnitus is the most common.
A little known fact is that there are literally millions of minuscule hair cells deep inside the ear that get very stimulated by the great pressure of sound waves caused by external noise.
As and when noise is discerned by your ear the cilia start moving, electrical impulses are discharged through the auditory nerve which your brain figures out to be a sound.
