I had a tooth filled in my lower left side last week (tinnitis is in right ear, though), I took an Alleve last evening for some pain (bad knee--but this is not unusual, I've taken Alleve before, and used to take Naprocyn); and I burned a scented candle last night.
Woke up at 4:30 this morning to go to bathroom, then could not sleep. Finally got to sleep, and woke up around 6 or so with my right ear ringing and some hearing loss. The back of my right ear was itching...I worried something had bit me and gotten into my ear during the night.
No ear pain...other than some soreness from where I've been digging in it all day with Q-tips, etc.I took a prescription Zyrteck-D on my doctor's office advice, and will take again tonight. I'm wondering of it was the scented candle? I've used it before, but this morning, my sinuses were full and I had to keep blowing my nose when I awoke...this is unusual.Also, I have TMJ really bad (never had ear problem before w/it though) and I also started using a Goose Down pillow 2 nights ago. What is this, it be tinnitus?

Hi Sandra,
Firstly let me say that I do not believe that burning the scented candle is in anyway related to your tinnitis in the right ear. The sinuses could have felt full or dry as a result of sleeping in a room with the candle burning. Also it seems that you have been using Aleve regularly for your bad knee for some time now, without ill effects, so I believe we can safely rule that out as a possible cause of the tinnitus.
"No ear pain...other than some soreness from where I've been digging in it all day with Q-tips, etc" Sandra, this is definitely NOT a good idea and can cause even more inner damage than you possibly already have.
It is my belief that you are most likley suffering from cochlea damage related tinnitus. The cochlea is a delicate inner ear organ and I have discussed this in more detail below.
We do have excellent success with this type of tinnitus.
Most people don't know that there are millions of tiny hairs inside the cochlea that are stimulated by the enormous pressures of sound waves.
As a noise is discerned by your ears and those auditory hairs move, electrical impulses are discharged through the auditory nerve that your brain picks up and tells you you've just heard a sound.
This agitation then causes a stirring of all those microscopic nerve cells, which reminds one to a wheat field rustling in time to the wind blowing.
All those tiny cells and these diminutive auditory nerve cells get damaged easily when exposed to sudden loud noises. The cochlear damage is automatically worsened if you have listened to loud music for a long time.
These sensitive organs can also be damaged because of a bad blow on to the head. Our minute hairs bend out of shape or even get chopped-off and then send random impulses to the brain which are interpreted as sound, even though there might be an absence of sound. That's what tinnitus is, a phantom sound.
Cochlear damage from noise resulting in to chirping noises in the ears often is caused by earwax treatments gone wrong, ear candles, scuba diving, playing sports, surgery to the head, ears or nasal passages and can also be caused by ear infections.
Loss of hearing is most certainly permanent however our tinnitus remedies have been very successful at dramatically lowering the levels of tinnitus caused from cochlear damage.There are millions of little hairs situated in the inner ear that move when you perceive an external sound.
When a sound gets discerned by the ears and these small hairs move, signals go streaking through the auditory nerve which your brain interprets as a sound.
