Our Response:
Hello Mel,
The incident that you experienced when the Microphone blew back has certainly caused or aggravated damage to your ears, resulting in cochlea damage induced tinnitus.
You are however fortunate as we have achieved excellent results in our treatment of this particular tinnitus - which we refer to as Type 4 tinnitus.Did you know that there are literally millions of tiny hairs in the inner ear that are moved by sound waves caused by external noise.
As and when an external noise is detected the tiny hairs sway and send signals through the auditory nerve which is interpreted as a sound by your brain.
The agitation of the hairs in the cochlea can be likened to a field of long grass rippling in tune with the breeze.
The cilia in the cochlea are easily broken from the pressures generated by sudden bursts of sounds. The damage is all the more amplified if you have played in a band or have worked in a noisy factory for a long time.
These sensitive organs can also be damaged from a knock on the head. If damage happens and those tiny hairs are damaged or bent they can send random signals to the brain which are interpreted as noise even though none is present.
Tinnitus from noise (cochlea damage tinnitus) is also caused by scuba diving accidents, swimming incidents, ear wax removals etc.
Hearing loss is most certainly not reversible nevertheless the ringing in the ears treatments have been very successful at dramatically and permanentlyreducing the tinnitus levels from a damaged cohlea.
