Margaret asked:

After I had flown for the 1st time, I experienced a feeling of noises being louder occasionally and hearing through a vacuum.

Approximatel 1 month later the tinnitus started in my right ear-off/on at first, like a gas tap being turned off/on, also a popping and pains (both ears)and positional.

Just recently the tinnitus has become almost constant-just differing in intensity. The only relief I can sometimes get is to put my neck in different positions, clench my teeth, push down hard on the top of my head- very strange, almost like theres air pressure inside my head thats travelling around, and the tinnitus is sometimes worse than others.

The tinnitus definately progressing. I used to have bad days and good days, now its bad hours/days and copeable minutes. I am waiting for a brain scan (to exclude?)next week, but somehow because I've had tinnitus for a year now I don't think its anything like that.

Its like when you go up a steep hill, as well as the noises I feel that my ears need to 'pop'. I tried Beconase nasal spray for about 6 weeks, that just made me have bad heads (terrible cold feeling on my forehead and top of head. I have tried a couple of anti-histimes but didn't feel any relief( maybe I should have persevered.

Anyway any help or advice you can give about what time of tinnitus you think I have and if theres anything that will help.

Our Response:

Dear Margaret,

Based on your detailed description, I would say you are almost certainly suffering from two conditions, Patulous Eustachian Tubes and Sinus Related Tinnitus.

I have explained both of these in deatil below and would recommend that in order to get lasting relief from your condition you should use both of the emedies in conjunction with each other.
