I have had tinnitus and a ringing in my right year for about 5 days. The day before I went shooting but I didn't have any ringing in my ears.I had been wearing ear protection.
I have been exposed to gunshots at the pistol range before but never had tinnitus happen or last that long.I don't shoot often maybe twice a year. It is only ringing in my right ear. I can hear clearly just have a faint ringing in the back ground.

Did you know that there are millions of teeny-weeny hairs deep inside the ear that get stimulated from the sometimes extreme pressures of sound waves.
As noises is recognized by your ears and the little hairs undulate, electric signals are sent via the auditory nerve which your brain figures out to be a noise.
When excitation causes movement of those delicate hair cell, which is similar to a wheat field on a farm shifting in time with the wind.
All of those micro hairs and those delicate nerve cells break very easily when you are exposed sudden to loud noise. The cochlear damage is all the more worsened if you have been exposed to loud noises over an extended period of time.
Those sensitive inner ear organs like the auditory nerve cells and hairs are damaged as a result of a bad knock on to the head. The auditory hairs often get bent out of shape or even chopped-off and then send random impulses directly to the brain which interprets them as a noise, even though there might be an absence of sound.
