Tinnitus is very high pitched and loud.

By John On September 28, 2006 Under Meniere's Disease

I went completely deaf in 24 hours after a severe bout of vertigo the doctors say was caused by a viral attack in my inner ear. Most likely the shingles virus in my inner ear.

The tinnitus and hyperacusus began as soon as the deafness began and have continued for 5 years now. The Tinnitus is very high pitched and loud and gets louder in loud environments and stressful situations ( as loud as a smoke alarm and painfull)

There is a dull roaring sound as well. It actually quiets down a bit when I sleep laying on my good ear. 16 months ago I became worse being stressed out at work and sick with a virus.

I basically crashed and burned and have not worked at my job since. They put me on two years of long term disability which runs out in May 2007. I have heard that the auditory nerve damage Tinnitus is the most difficult to treat.

In summary:
Totally Deaf in right ear with very loud Tinnitus on the right side causing frequent debilitating swimmy head/drunken feeling. Loud environments agrivate my condition (hyperacusus).

Firstly let me state this – it is VERY unlikely that you have auditory nerve damage tinnitus! This tinnitus type will normally only occur due to some form of physical trauma (such as in a motor accident) or due to extremely bad ear infections that could cause the nerve damage.

I am convinced that you are suffering from a condition known as [tag-self]Meniere’ss[/tag-self] disease.

[tag-tec Meniere’s Disease]Meniere’s Disease[/tag-tec] is an inner ear disorder that causes one to experience periods of vertigo, dizziness, nausea, ear pressure and tinnitus. It is a chronic condition which most often leaves you feeling exhausted.

A typical attack of Meniere’s Disease may be preceded by:

• ear pressure
• a feeling of fullness in the ears
• aching in one or both ears.
• hearing fluctuation
• loud tinnitus noises may also precede an attack.

A Meniere’s Disease attack generally involves severe vertigo (head spinning and dizziness), imbalance, nausea, and vomiting.

The average Meniere’s Disease attack lasts two to four hours. After a severe attack, most people are extremely exhausted and must sleep for several hours.

Do those symptoms sound familiar?

You can control the symptoms of vertigo and nausea to a large degree by eating correctly and you will find lots of help right here on the site. Visit this link for Meniere’s Disease dietary advice Low Salt Diet To Control Meniere’s Disease .

The tinnitus that you are experiencing is cochlear damage tinnitus. This is normal with Meniere’s Disease. We had had very good success in treating the tinnitus asscociated with Meniere’s disease using our Cochlear Damage Tinnitus Remedy which is supplied as part of the Meniere’s disease treatment remedy.

I hope this helps!
