Tinnitus From Damage to The Cochlea

By John On December 3, 2007 Under Tinnitus Articles, Tinnitus Questions

Dear John Currie

I am not so sure what type of tinnitus that I have. I had a meningitis attack two and half months ago and I went into a coma for one day. I only woke up in the Intensive Care Unit to find that I suddenly can not hear anything, completely deaf.

After I was transferred from the ICU to the wards that is when I started to hear these funny noises. It started as soft humming noise or the sound made by crickets[insects]. Doctors told me that it was tinnitus and would go away gradually with time. But ever since I was discharged from the hospital it has gone from bad to worse, it is now high pitched roaring buzz in my head like aeroplane about to take off. The noise is distressing such that my balance in walking is very unstable. I can not sleep well.

I am waiting for some hearing aids, Doctors said they may reduce the noise.Tell will this ever end or it is going to be permanent? My head is about to explode.please help.

Regards, Mika

Hello Mika

From the noises you are describing (cricket, insects or cicadas) it is certain that at some time, probably when you had the attack and ended up in hospital, you suffered cochlea damage.

This is the most common from of tinnitus and can occur as a result of infections, head or dental surgery or a blow to the head. Exposure to loud noise will also cause cochlea damage tinnitus.

Other noises associated with this type of tinnitus are ringing bells, chirping sounds, sounds like cicadas or crickets, roaring, hissing and fluttering sounds.

Whilst the T-Gone remedies are not able to help with the hearing loss the can and will dramatically relieve and reduce the levels of the tinnitus noises you are hearing.
