Tinnitus Symptoms – How to Know if You Have Tinnitus?

By John On January 30, 2008 Under Tinnitus News

How does one know if the noise that they hear is already a tinnitus sound? A tinnitus sound is characterized by a ringing, buzzing, hissing, ticking, clicking, or croaking sound and these noises can only be heard by the person having the tinnitus since the noise does not come from an external source.

Almost everyone of us have experienced hearing a tinnitus sound and we just don’t know that what we are hearing is already a tinnitus sound. We often hear it every time we are on elevated areas, such as when we are on board a plane. We also experience hearing tinnitus sounds when our ears is exposed to loud noise.

It is important to know that a sudden exposure to loud noise may also cause a sudden tinnitus, but in cases wherein the tinnitus noise is heard for a longer period, there is a high probability that there might be a permanent damage to hearing and this needs immediate attention.

Some cases of tinnitus may be accompanied by episodes of vertigo. The tinnitus in this case usually arises from frequent attacks of vertigo which causes permanent hearing damage that leads to tinnitus. Aside from vertigo and progressive hearing loss, aural fullness may also be felt by a person who has tinnitus caused by Meniere’s disease.

Headache may also be experienced by a person who has tinnitus. Stress is another tinnitus symptom which may be felt by a person with tinnitus. Stress usually comes from the idea that they are hearing noises which does not come from an external source and which they have no control over.

Stress can either be controlled or may develop to distress depending on the attitude of the person having tinnitus. The more they worry about their tinnitus, the more they get stressed and it just makes the noise that they hear much louder than the usual.
