Tinnitus - Here’s What I Think
Rona Has asked some excellent tinnitus related questions which I discuss here.
I realised I had Tinnitus when I was 23 years old and saw a Safety Advertisement on the TV describing the cause and symptoms. That was 22 years ago and I have coped with it during that time due to my mental attitude and have always dismissed it as much as possible.
Tinnitus Aggravated
Recently I went to the hospital to have wax removed from my ears and they used suction. This seemed to make the noise worse and for the first time I started not coping with it. I started to take panic attacks because of it which had never happened before.
I’ve possibly had tinnitus since childhood
I think I possibly had Tinnitus as a child as I remember asking my parents what a humming sound was that was keeping me awake. They couldn’t hear it and said it was just the ’sound of silence’. I accepted this and never thought about it again until the TV advert I saw. My son (21 years) also has Tinnitus but it isn’t bothering him at present. The point is that I don’t see my Tinnitus as being caused by Stress or Cochlea Damage or Sinus problems - I think it’s Genetic!
I have been looking into the following areas and wonder if you could give me your ideas on the subjects:
1) TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) - This is supposed to be linked to Tinnitus. I have been told by a dentist in the past that I had a minor problem with my jaw so I think this could be a factor and also could be hereditary and passed to my son. I am currently waiting on an appointment to see about this.
2) Adrenal Glands - The Chinese believe that an imbalance in the production of Adrenalin can cause Tinnitus. They think that herbs (including Ginko Biloba, which I notice you include in some of your remedies) can redress the balance.
I would be interested if you have any knowledge of this approach, or indeed if you think there is any other way to help my particular form of tinnitus.
Hi Rona,
I am not sure if the tinnitus you are experiencing is genetic, but the causes of the tinnitus most certainly could be genetic. It is certainly within the bounds of probability that you could have been born with defects to the inner ear system that leads to hearing loss and tinnitus.
So with regard to your question “can tinnitus be hereditary, i.e. genetically transmitted from parent to offspring,” I would have to answer in the affirmative.
TMJ has been linked to tinnitus but this type of tinnitus is normally of the “clucking” or “clicking” type of noises as opposed to the noises most people describe as “a ringing in the ears.”
With Regard to the Adrenal Glands I have seen no evidence that a lack of that they do cause or aggravate tinnitus, apart from the fact that an imbalance of Adrenalin can cause Tinnitus. It certainly could aggravate tinnitus symptoms though as an imbalance of Adrenalin will mean you are less able to handle stress and anxiety and this will increase the tinnitus symptoms.
None of our homeopathic tinnitus remedies include Ginkgo biloba but our 2 step tinnitus relief and immune booster formula does indeed include pharmaceutical grade Ginkgo biloba extract. This is an excellent product to take in conjunction with the homeopathic tinnitus remedy as it will give your immune system a great big boost.
