Menieres Disease Symptoms

Menieres Disease Symptoms

Named after French physician Prosper Meniere who first described it, Menieres Disease is a chronic inner ear disorder. It is estimated that 1 in 100 people develop it, and usually, it begins between the ages of 20 and 50, although it may affect anyone at any age.

Vertigo, usually described as “it feels as if the room is spinning”, is the most notable of the Menieres Disease symptoms. It often causes a person to feel nauseated or to vomit, and leaves him or her exhausted. A vertigo attack may even the cause a person to involuntarily drop to the ground.

Other signs of the condition include hearing fluctuation and tinnitus or ringing in the ears. An attack of the condition lasts 2 to 4 hours on the average. The symptoms, though, can vary from person to person.
