Auditory Deprivation Affects A Person’s Ability to Speak

By John On July 21, 2010 Under hearing loss

Ever wondered why people who are born deaf also turn out to be mute?  This is because deaf people cannot possibly pronounce or say a word that they have not heard of.

However, for those that have acquired hearing loss due to various reasons, there is also a tendency of possible speech deterioration.  Why?  A person who experiences hearing loss will be deprived from hearing noise from their surrounding and this can lead to a condition referred to as “auditory deprivation”.  A person’s ability to speak becomes affected when the auditory centers of the brain stops receiving auditory signals.

It is then not advisable to do nothing.  The use of hearing aids are recommended to avoid such problems.  Before you even think of using those hearing aids, it is important to know what warning signs one must look out for.  If you start to notice not being able to hear clearly when in noisy surroundings, then you should take heed.  Take note of your attitude of asking people to repeat what they just said.  Before you know it, you are really having problems hearing problems already.  Whenever you feel doubtful, try to subject yourself to a hearing test.  Early detection surely helps a lot.
