Rising Trend of Hearing Loss on Teenagers
Statistical researches have shown an increase in the number of cases of hearing loss on teenagers. Since most teenagers spend a lot of time with headphones plugged in their ears, some parents can be quick at blaming iPods, MP4s, or any other gadget that these teenagers have been using.
A specific study however, would like to somehow disprove these parents popular belief about iPods. A number of youths have been asked about their exposure to loud sounds. The results showed that there was no relative increase on the exposure to loud sounds, thereby suggesting other factors like children’s nourishment, pollution and many other possible causes on the increasing cases of hearing loss on teenagers.
However, the single question asked about the exposure to loud sounds of the teenagers that took part in the study is significantly insufficient. There were no follow up questions about headphones and other devices. The good thing however, is that the study was able to present other equally important factors. This would help experts properly identify the main causes of the increase of hearing impairment in teenagers. This would help reduce the number of teenagers who would have to visit an audiologist to undergo tinnitus treatment remedies and hearing loss.
