Are Headphones The Real Culprit on The Growing Number of Hearing Losses On Teenagers?
Obviously, a lot of teenagers and even adults are endeared with the sleek and trendy gadgets like the iPhone, MP4 and many others. These gadgets are undeniably wonderful due to its mobility and multi-functionality.
However, there are people who raise concerns on the health risks that these cute and sleek gadgets could bring. The concerns were raised based on the increasing statistics for hearing loss, particularly on teenagers. The increase in the statistical data is being associated with the risky listening behavior of most teenagers.
As a matter of fact, a 24-year study on young teenage girls has showed a correlation between the relatively increasing number of hearing loss in teenagers and the use of the technological gadgets. About 80 percent of the young girls that used a gadget had higher chances of either tinnitus or hearing loss. These girls might one day have to deal with using earplugs, hearing aids, or search for new tinnitus treatment.
However, the 24-year study conducted, failed to consider factors other than the use of the fashionable gadgets. Thus, the validity of the study is still in question. The things that need to be done to prevent the numbers from increasing is much more important.
