Ear Ringing

By Jane On October 22, 2008 Under Tinnitus Articles, Tinnitus News

How annoying could it be to have your ear ringing? Pretty annoying, indeed especially for those who experience it consistently and loud enough, thus affecting their activities. Add to the annoyance the idea that you are the only one who can hear it, causing you to doubt if it is real and whether you are just making it up in your head or not.

It may comfort you a bit to know that ringing in the ears is real, and it is not just all in your head. The technical term for it is tinnitus, which is defined as the perception of sound in one or both ears or in the head where no external source is present. It is even considered common as it affects around 66 million individuals in the United States in one way or another.

As much as it is common, many people do not know about it or misunderstand it. In fact, most of its sufferers do not that it is an actual condition until they have been told so by their doctors. Furthermore, it as known as ear ringing because it usually comes as a ringing noise. There are other sounds, however, that are associated with it. These include buzzing, roaring, humming, whistling, clicking, and hissing sounds.

There are various reasons why people experience ringing in the ear. The main causes are noise-induced cochlear damage, stress, sinus problems or allergic reactions, and Meniere’s Disease. It has other known causes, though, including age-associated loss of hearing, TMJ, head and neck injuries, muscle tension, thyroid disorder, and circulatory problems like atherosclerosis, malformation of the capillaries, and hypertension.

Because having ringing ears is a symptom of an underlying medical condition, its treatment is generally based on its cause. However, most of the treatments available are designed to relieve the symptoms and not on treating the root cause itself.

It is a good thing, though, that homeopathic tinnitus remedies have been developed and prepared to focus on treating the root cause and not just the symptoms. When used with other remedies, they can reduce the level of the unwanted sound to ignorable.

Treatments that help you manage stress and boost your immune system should be used together with the homeopathic remedies. Counseling, biofeedback, and relaxation help you control stress. On the other hand, using white noise maskers to help you get enough sleep, immune boost supplements, and having a healthy diet and proper and regular exercise are some of the treatments that can boost your immune system.
