Noisy Busy Streets and Hearing Damage
Studies are showing that traffic in big cities can supply noise that is sufficient to cause hearing damage over time. It must be well noted that most of the population are in the big cities and many people in these cities commute and stay beside busy streets to fetch a cab or wait for buses. Most of them don’t know that noise levels in busy streets can go above 70 dB and that’s dangerous to the ears.
Studies show that repeated exposure to these noises can cause irreparable damage to the hearing. Reports of hearing loss cases have been increasing recently. Excessive noise exposure also leads to other problems like tinnitus. Conditions like these don’t have cure. Tinnitus masking treatment can alleviate ringing in the ears and hearing aids can amplify hearing, but these don’t reverse the damage done.
If you want to get rid of them, you have to prevent them. Prevention is easy. Earplugs are not that expensive and they are the best preventive devices against noise induced damage. Cover your ears if you don’t have earplugs or earmuffs.
Noise in big metropolises like New York can magnify the noise levels as tall buildings serve as effective sound reflectors. Hence, the constant noise may reach uncomfortable levels.
