3 Steps to Reduce Tinnitus and Stress

By John On May 25, 2011 Under Ringing In Ears

That vicious ringing in your ear may be exacerbated by stress, but tinnitus can also elevate stress levels. So it is important to manage both tinnitus and stress to avoid suffering from other problems like sleeplessness and anxiety.

1. Relax – Tension causes stress, which in turn worsens your tinnitus momentarily. This is why people who already have tinnitus notice that the ringing in their ears becomes seemingly louder. Relaxation reduces stress levels and helps you cope with tinnitus. It does not stop ear ringing, but it surely makes you feel better. Relaxation techniques include Yoga and meditation. Simple breathing exercises can help. You should also take rest whenever possible.

2. Exercise – Exercise improves stress and tinnitus in different ways. It enhances the stamina of your cardiovascular system and improves your immunity. Even a simple brisk walking can improve your wellbeing. Sufficient exercise releases endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers. People who exercise regularly are more resilient to stress. At the same time, people who are active tend to notice their tinnitus much less.

3. Stay away from caffeine, alcohol, and smoke – Part of lifestyle modification for people with ears ringing include reducing intake of caffeine and alcohol and smoking fewer cigarettes. This is an alternative to eliminating them all together. Caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine have negative impacts on your health and can intensify your tinnitus. These substances can also put different organs in your body under stress. Worsening your tinnitus and putting your body under stress are just two of the negative effects they impose upon your health.
