Conventional and Alternative Medicines: How to Find the Best Treatments for Tinnitus

By John On May 27, 2011 Under Tinnitus Articles

Millions of people in the world suffer from an ear condition called tinnitus. It can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or nationality. Sadly, despite of the huge number of tinnitus sufferers and the tremendous efforts of medical professionals, a definitive cure for tinnitus has not yet been found. Nevertheless, this does not exactly mean that you cannot relieve tinnitus. It just indicates that the efficiency of a certain treatment may vary from person to person and from case to case. The treatments for tinnitus may come from conventional or alternative medicines. Listed below are some of these remedies.

1. Conventional Medicine – If you have tinnitus, the first thing that you should be able to know is that tinnitus is not necessarily a disease but a sign of some unwanted medical conditions. It is important to consult your doctor and get the proper diagnosis of your condition. Your doctor may advise you to take medications like Lidocaine and anti depressants. Moreover, some cases require medical procedures such as surgery to get rid of ringing in the ears. There are also counseling sessions which you may undergo. These sessions can help you understand your condition better and can help you brain adjust to the sound of tinnitus.

2. Alternative Medicine – Tinnitus can also be treated using natural treatments for tinnitus. These remedies may include sound therapy which uses devices like noise maskers covering the tinnitus noise. The idea is to replace the annoying noise created by tinnitus by a more desirable noise called pink or white noise. Furthermore, some people may take herbal medications such as Gingko Biloba. Another natural remedy for tinnitus is to engage in yoga and other traditional practices like acupressure and acupuncture. Additionally, vitamin therapy can also be very helpful in such a way that it can provide nutrients like Zinc and Magnesium which most tinnitus sufferers usually lack.

Bear in mind that whatever kind of tinnitus treatment you might want to try, make sure to get the approval of your physician. Some treatments may not really have good effects in your body and may only cause more trouble. Be very careful and always verify whatever information your may gather about tinnitus.
