Things to Expect When Undergoing Tinnitus Therapy
One of the few ways to get rid of tinnitus is by undergoing tinnitus therapy. There are two types of therapies that a person with tinnitus can undergo: Tinnitus Masking Therapy and Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. Tinnitus masking therapy involves the use of white noise to mask the ear ringing, while tinnitus retraining therapy involves the conditioning of a person’s mind so that when one hears an ear ringing, it is treated in the same manner as we treat a regular noise in the environment that we have gotten used to.
There are a few things that every person who undergoes these types of therapy should expect:
• It may not work for everyone. Even if a tinnitus masking treatment can work for one person you may know who is having problems with tinnitus, there is still a big chance that using tinnitus maskers may not work for you.
• Tinnitus retraining therapy does not provide instant results. Since the main goal is to habituate the noise, it does take several months before results are seen. Hence it is not advisable to conclude that the therapy is not working if one has only gone thru it for a month.
• Even if the therapies work, expect your tinnitus to still bother you at some point. Tinnitus is usually a permanent thing and it can be triggered by certain factors like stress.
