Food that Must be Avoided When You have Meniere’s Disease
Progressive hearing loss, tinnitus or ringing in the ears and vertigo are the three prominent symptoms of Meniere’s Disease but their occurrence can be minimized with some adjustments in the diet. Here is a list of certain types of foods that must be eliminated from the diet:
• Food that a person is allergic to. This is because there have been presumptions on the relation of menieres to allergies.
• High sodium content. Sodium or salt intake should be lowered especially to those who have problems in the ear. This is mainly because salt causes the retention of fluid in the ears.
• Alcohol intake. Excessive intake of alcohol affects the blood vessels in the vestibule of the inner ears.
• Caffeine intake. Majority of adults love coffee. However, too much caffeine stimulates the central system and will most likely worsen the symptoms of Menieres.
Although you have avoided all the foods mentioned above, it does not give you an assurance that you can totally get away from the symptoms of the disease. What it can do is just minimize the severity of your hearing loss, constant ear ringing and vertigo.
