What Happens When There is Ringing in Your Ears: Facts to Know

By John On June 16, 2011 Under Ringing In Ears

Tinnitus is a very common condition but a few people know or understand the mechanism behind the condition. We are constantly looking for a tinnitus cure but not everyone can give a clear explanation as to why a ringing in the ears happen or what happens when there is ringing in your ears. We all know that a person who has tinnitus can hear noise which does not come from any external noise. Here are facts that can be interesting to know:

• The human brain constantly looks for sound stimuli. Even in the absence of sound in the environment, the brain still works to pick up sound.
• During a longer period of sound absence, as in the case of a person having partial or temporary hearing loss, the brain shorts circuits itself in its continuous attempt to get a sound stimuli.
• As the brain continuously attempts to grab sound stimuli, it produces what we would interpret as a ringing in the ears.
• Ringing in the ears can stop if you begin to hear normal sounds again.

Knowing what is tinnitus can help us understand better what is happening to us the next time we would experience a ringing in the ear.
