Stress Relief

By Jane On December 11, 2008 Under Tinnitus & Related Blogs, Tinnitus Articles

Being in stressful situations is part of our day-to-day living: upcoming exam, bills to pay, presentation to make, and so on. Stress is not entirely negative as it makes us be on our toes, motivated, and more productive. But, when we get too much of it and we are not able to manage it, our overall health is at risk. To prevent this from happening, it is therefore important that we make use of stress relief strategies.

One of the most helpful ways to manage stress is relaxation. Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation help relax the muscles, lower the blood pressure, and make you emotionally calm.

Deep breathing is the most handy of the relaxation techniques, so it is important that you breathe deeply and properly. What you can do is sit comfortably with your back straight. Place one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. Breathe in through your nose, making the hand on your stomach rise, and the hand on your chest move a little. Then counting slowly, exhale through your mouth.

Physical exercise is also helpful in relieving stress. When you exercise, what usually happens is that your body releases endorphins, the chemical substances that make you feel happy and good. Also, when your body is in good shape, you have less things to worry about, and this can make your emotional and mental health be in good shape as well. When we speak of exercising, you should not only think of going to the gym, though. There are exercise activities that do not require you going to the gym, just like walking alone or with your peers and taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

Counseling, hypnotherapy, yoga, and a stress relief formula are also helpful in dealing with stressful situations.

More importantly, stress management is all about taking charge, about your attitude towards certain things. One thing that you can do is to know your limit. While it is good to aim for excellence, there are things that we just cannot perfect, so we should learn to accept our limitations to avoid ourselves from getting stressed unnecessarily. Also, know yourself and each of the things that stresses you. It could be a hot-button topic such as politics or religion, a person who annoys you, or a noisy environment. This way, you know the things that you should avoid, thus lessening the stressors that you have to deal with everyday.
