Hearing Loss via the iPod

Hearing Loss via the iPod

One of the most common devices you will see people carrying and using in public these days is the famous Apple iPod. Everywhere you go it seems that you see someone wearing the famous white ear buds that are a very clear indication that an iPod is most certainly in use. These devices have been widely received due to their ability to carry a very large collection of music in a very small form factor. Not all is positive with these devices though as it turns out that the ear buds can be very damaging to the ears. The ear buds place the sound source almost immediately on top of the eardrum and with the amount of time people spend listening to music this can be very damaging. The rats of hearing loss are going up dramatically and even more disturbing is the age at which such hearing loss is being reported. This is a trend that is bound to continue as these and other similar MP3 players are so widely used and this use is very unlikely to subside. Other hearing conditions such as tinnitus which manifests itself as a repeated ringing or buzzing sound are also seeing greatly increased rates of occurrence due to the extra abuse the ears are taking.
