About $78 billion is spent each year on treatment for heart problems according to a recent survey. This amount includes such expenses as hospital visits, nursing home costs, prescription drugs, and emergency care costs, and amounts to roughly eight percent of all money spent on health care in this country.
Australian scientists believe they have found the cure to tinnitus (ringing ears). They have linked the condition to excessive nerve activity, ultimately linked to the over-expression of certain identified genes.
Although it is usually more effective to implant multiple embryos when a woman is trying to get pregnant, a recent study has shown that it may be better to plant only a single embryo. This would help prevent multiple births and also provides the single embryo an increased chance for survival.
In a survey regarding chronically ill patients, it was found that over twenty percent of the patients were victims of one or more medical errors. The blame seems to fall on faulty procedures, with high incidences of poor communication, conflicting advice, and lack of necessary information on the part of the healthcare provider. Overall, about twenty percent of the victims claim their health was negatively affected.
