Help for Tinnitus: The Health-Wise Community’s Approach

Ellen Currie's Ringing Ears Rule For Today: If the ringing in the ears is actually keeping you up for very long periods at night, trying getting out of bed, proceeding to a completely different room and doing anything distracting , for instance creating a warm milky beverage, or experiencing a relaxing bath.

There has been this bust of treatments for tinnitus and everyone is just preoccupied with getting relief from all the ringing and buzzing in their ears. However, some groups of experts agree that tinnitus is not a disease to be cured, but it is a condition one must have to cope with over time. This statement is truer that it seems. Help for tinnitus does not always come in pills or in medications you take in orally. Sometimes it is just in your mind.

One of the most important things you must remember if you have tinnitus is that this problem is caused by any underlying problem inside or outside your body. What do we mean by this? It can be due to some disease, say an ear infection or some vascular problem. In other cases tinnitus is due to the factors around the sufferer like extreme noise and stress. Of course, you could be wiser if you get yourself evaluated by a doctor. Since tinnitus is not a disease but can be a sign of one, it is essential that you seek treatment for the underlying disorder.

Tinnitus in itself is rarely a serious condition. It is not supposed to be disabling or debilitating. You worry because you seem to “hear crickets or bees” when you sleep. Worrying does no good at all. Anxiety worsens tinnitus. If you try to accept that you have tinnitus, coping would come quicker. Help for tinnitus must come within you. If you convince yourself that you are fine, that you are all right despite the ringing inside your head, then you become just as all right as you think. Tinnitus becomes a problem only if you get bothered by it. More often than not, sufferers get used to it after a time.

There are of course things you can do to help you cope better. This all boils down to lifestyle change. Change! It is not like going through the same routine. No! You are having tinnitus because you never took care of yourself. Take the fact that you may no longer enjoy too quiet environments. Silence makes you hear your tinnitus more. So play your radio or your CD player, but not too loud. Moderate sounds enable you to ignore tinnitus. Avoid too much noise. Do not exhaust yourself. You may want to enroll to a yoga or meditation class because these relaxation techniques help soothe the nerves. Be active. Be involved in fun activities.

There may be days when your tinnitus seems worse, just as there are days when you get a troublesome headache or cold. Live with it. You are fine more than you think you are. Help for tinnitus happens if you make it happen.
