Is The Tinnitus or The Blocked Ears My Problem?

By John On August 2, 2009 Under Tinnitus & Related Blogs, Tinnitus Questions

Hi John,

I have a question for you. I’m 62 and have had tinnitus for many years. When I was very young I had numerous ear infections and several perforated ear drums.

During the 60′s I flew in Navy jets and ended up with about 2,500 flight hours. It wasn’t until the second half of those flight hours that the Navy realized that the noise from the jet engines could be harmful and started a hearing loss program and required us to wear ear plugs.

During the past 20 years I have had numerous sinus infections and finally had two sinus surgeries that have now stopped the infections. My ears constantly feel “full” and I need to clear them frequently by plugging my nose, closing my mouth and blowing out. My ears will plug easily with changes in elevation.

On the rare occasion that my ears are relatively clear, the tinnitus is much less of a problem so my thought is that its not the tinnitus as much as it is the inability of my ears to clear or stay clear.

I have been to several ear specialists and allergy specialists but without any help. any thoughts?

Thanks.

Hello Tom,

It is our experience that the tinnitus experienced by people who have had habitual problems with sinus problems is caused from a thickening of the mucous in the middle ear. There are many mucous membranes in the ear that provide a vital function. These continually produce the mucous that is essential for cleansing the middle ear.

After performing it’s cleasing action the mucous drain away from the middle ear via the Eustachian tubes which are very narrow. If anything occurs to cause the mucous to become slightly less viscous, i.e. it becomes slightly thicker than normal, it will not easily drain away from the middle ear.

This results in that “full” feeling one sometimes experiences. This condition causes many problems including ear infections and tinnitus.

You will find more information regarding this condition, which we call sinus tinnittus, and how best to treat it at the link immediately below this paragraph.

Hi John,
Thank you for your email, it has very interesting information. I will order as soon as I can, I believe that my tinnitus is due to before it appeared I had a benign tumor in my face operated. Also I suffer from sinusitis, take antibiotics and suffer a lot of stress. I have a son with hearing impairment and learning difficulties who although is 24 year old now, his behavior is still as a 12 or 13 year old. He was bullied in school and thrown on his head to a rock which caused him a small brain injury which has healed now but, it is not easy, as we want him to reach his potential and have a life.
He is intelligent and loving but shy because of his hearing problem which makes him a loner. He would like to have a girlfriend but, if he doesn’t mix with anybody else it is hard. He is going for his black belt in Karate which is a big achievement for him. Alexander’s hearing problem is genetic it gets worse as he gets older. (He is adopted and we have no history of his family or health issues).

Another of the reasons that I haven’t ordered yet is that my husband had a major prostate cancer operation in February (robotic, in Sydney with one of the top specialists in Australia) which was very hard for us as we live from the age pension and had to get many loans etc. Anyway, what is the price of a life. But, it doesn’t allow me to do much at the moment, as I always put myself at the end.

As soon as it is humanly possible I will order the medicine that I need so much. At the moment I have an ear infection and the flu, my husband has also got the flue. So, as you must realized it is not easy.

May God continue Blessing you and your family.
Doris

Dear John:

The download ot the 130 page booklet does not, it only attempts to install Adobe 9.11, which I already have. Why don\’t you just post the PDF file and I\’ll take care of Adobe on my own.

The drug list was another repeat of the annoying commercial spoken, but never going anywhere, Why?

My system (latest update of Vista) does not recognize the MP3 file, is the file name complete? I guess my system won\’t automatically unzip it.
I\’ll have to research that.

Thanks for trying,
Doug

dear john, all i can say is a have a cycling tinnitus which bothers me very much when it starts. it’s the various head sounds, not ear that the most disturbing. there are just too many letters to type in to get to your survey. all i know is the company or person that comes up with permanent relief for tinnitus will be a billionaire quickly.my cycles are for 10-12 days before subsiding for another 10-12 days. i think scientists are working on cranial therapies. any comment?

Good Morning:
I have read the book, I find it interesting. my biggest issue is when will they find a cure for this terrible noise in my head or ears. I stay busy so that I dont have to think about it. but there are days when I just dont know what to do.

I have been to the Tinnutus Association to see if they have found anything, they have this new thing that is a needle put directly in the ear, but I have not enought on it to see if I want to do it. I found Tai Chi, and Accupunture to help me a great deal.

Dear John
Several month ago I purchased 3 bottles of the formulation for noise induced ringing of the ears. After finishing 2 bottles and seeing no improvement I threw the last bottle away. Perhaps I had the wrong formlation – perhaps it should have been for sinius induced ringing – i don’t know. all I know is that my ears still wring.
