Understanding Tinnitus Symptoms

What types of symptoms might you face with tinnitus? This condition is commonly called ringing in the ears because this is the symptom most prominent that describes what tinnitus is. However, not everyone has ringing. Some people may experience chirping, buzzing, humming and other similar sounds. Many people report that it sounds like a high pitched squeal in the background or a high frequency whistle of some type.

People who experience the sounds of tinnitus may spend a long time trying to discover the source of the sounds. When the condition is new, you may think that other people can hear it too and you may be confused when others say they do not.

Some symptoms of tinnitus are obvious to those around someone who is experiencing tinnitus. Some signs of tinnitus include:

  • The person listens for something that isn’t really there
  • The person asks questions about something that no one else can hear
  • The person may have dizziness
  • Sleep and daily routines may be affected by the noises of tinnitus

While the main symptom of tinnitus is the sound that is heard, other symptoms that can come along with it are insomnia, trouble concentrating and more. The person may become moody or aggravated easier and may not want to spend time with friends or family or doing things they once enjoyed. This is a combination of the condition as well as the lack of sleep and other problems that come with the condition. It all takes its toll on the body, the mood and the immune system.

Now that you know about the tinnitus symptoms, you can learn to recognize them for yourself or in others in your life. Ringing in the ears does not have to take over your life but it’s very important that you learn as much as you can about the tinnitus symptoms and what possible treatments may exist for you.
