Using Headphones? You Could Be Harming Yourself
The Hidden Danger Of Enjoying Your Music
Dr. Michael Dahlke of ENT Associates tells us that hearing loss from listening to very loud music through headphones, can be far worse in children than in adults. The scary part is that most children typically turn up the volume anyway. I know I did!
With the increasing use of smartphones and the ease of downloading their favorite songs, today’s young people are putting themselves at risk every time they listen to music! more so if they are using headphones or inner ear headphones.
Before you plug headphones into your iPod, think twice about it. You could be affecting your hearing for years to come. It all comes down to how loud you’re playing those tunes. And the younger you are the worse it can be.
“We have seen an increase in the incidents of hearing loss in younger people…teenagers and even younger,” says Dr. Michael Dahlke, of ENT Associates. “You have a smaller volume for that sound pressure and therefore it can be worse in children than in adults.”
On a weekly basis he sees a number of noise induced hearing loss. Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears caused by loud noises, can strike at a young age and haunt you forever….

My advice would be to carefully check the output levels of any headphones you get for your chlidren. Make sure they are awar of the dangers of listening at high levels and see if there is a way to actually restrict the loudness settings. Many headphones these days have these settings.
After who wants a child to start suffering with tinnitus at a very young age when it can easily be avoided.
Aging – Living With It Happily
Aging Is A Privilege And An Art
There are no one size fits all silver bullets in regards to aging, but a few truths hold true for most people that you can apply to your own individual circumstances. Live the best life that you can. Many issues that come up as you age will work out depending on how you deal with them. Use the tips in this article to give you a little help on your journey.
A primer product helps out when using makeup on aged skin. Primers are a fairly recent development in the makeup arsenal, and the main ingredient in primers is silicone. It fills in rough patches, making your skin smoother and making the rest of your makeup go on easier.
Sometimes you come to a point where it is no longer feasible to live by yourself. If you have concerns about living alone, talk to someone you know and trust. If living with another family member is not an option, many care facilities for the aging exist. You could also explore communities specialized in regrouping the elderly without the structure of a retirement home.
You must get enough sleep each day. Try to get at least seven or nine hours of sleep every night. Sleep deprivation is linked with many different health conditions, including cardiovascular disease and depression.
Home improvement is a great way to personalize your house. As we get older, we may find that we are not living in the place that we once thought was going to be home for the rest of our days. If you have downsized into a smaller living space, be sure to decorate it in a way that makes it your own.
Using your mind is the best way to keep it active. As you get older, you get wiser so the saying goes; keep your intelligence sharp. You could take a course at a local community college or just read lots of books on what really interests you. What’s important is that you are always alert and thinking.
Aging adults sometimes lose interest in sex. For women whose interest in sex has waned, a visit to the doctor may help. You may be able to get some hormone supplements that will help you to keep your marriage’s intimacy intact.
Eating inordinate amounts of sugar can contribute to a shortened life span. Sugar is an ingredient that can shorten your life and make you age faster. Studies show that too much sugar can reduce the lifespan of any animal that can ingest it.
You should be sure to adjust your makeup to go with your gray hair. Expertly chosen and applied makeup can counteract the washed-out look that sometimes comes with gray hair. For lip color, try rosy pink shades that are warm and will give your skin a glow. Also use cheek color and base makeup that is a bit darker than usual. Use a yellow concealer for dark circles under your eyes and a brow pencil to define your eyebrows. Using the proper makeup can make your gray hair fabulous, as well as making you look younger.
In order to age well, it is vital to follow a balanced diet. Make sure that your diet is full of fiber, vegetables, whole grains and fruits. Be certain that you are only eating foods that don’t have a lot of cholesterol and bad fats. This gives your body all the nutrients and vitamins it needs to be strong and healthy.
Love life! You can really make things happen in your life. Fill your days with the people and things you love.
A healthy lifestyle can help you slow the aging process. Get your required daily nutrients by consuming a variety of lean meats, vegetables, fruits, diary products and carbohydrates. Eating smaller meals on a more frequent basis and cutting back on snacking will also be a big help to you.
You should try to eat more foods containing antioxidants. Antioxidants and longevity are often directly linked in medical studies. Antioxidants assist in purging your body of free-radical waste that builds up when your body breaks down food to energy. Get enough antioxidants every day to start becoming healthier.
Regardless of which helpful hints from this article you choose to use, you now know that dealing with aging is possible. The choice is yours and yours alone. Follow this advice and be proactive about aging. Have a plan in place to face the challenges of aging rather than becoming complacent.

Ellen Answers Some Tinnitus Remedy Questions
Hello Ellen
You may or may not remember speaking with me approx 2 months ago by phone. At that time I had orderd your T -gone remedy for Cochlear damage. The shipment arrived at the house shortly thereafter and I began to take it immediately. After about 2-3 weeks it apeared that my Tinitus was getting worse so I stopped taking the remedy.
My question to you is this, have you ever run into a problem before with your remedy aggravating tinitus symptoms?

Many people do experience an “aggravation” or worsening of the tinnitus symptoms once they start taking the homeopathic tinnitus treatments.
This can occur as a result of :
1] Your are stressed or anxious about starting a new treatment that you are not sure about. Stress and anxiety do certainly cause the levels of tinnitus to become louder. Once you settle down and stop worrying about actually taking the remedies, and if they are going to work, and simply focus on getting better, the tinnitus levels will recede and actually start reducing.
2] The remedies are starting to work and what you are experiencing is actually know in homeopathic terms as “an aggravation”. This often occurs in homeopathic treatments and is always a good sign and is an indication the you are taking the correct to treat your condition.
- In either case my advice is to have patience and persistence with you tinnitus, keep on taking the remedies and be positive. Remember I took them for a period of 8 months, all in all.
The increased ringing I detected may or may not have been caused from this and I don’t want to stop taking your remedy if the later is the case. To put it mildly I would do just about anything to lessen my Tinitus symptoms.
A bit of history here for you to digest.
I first noticed ringing at a very young age (10 or so). My Dad was involved with heavy equipment, chain saws etc. and I was with him most of my spare time from boyhood. Naturally, back in those days ear protection was not a consideration. I grew up in a Country setting and all my friends were into shooting high powered rifles also. This is where my Tinitus problems originated from.
At the age of 16 I tried smoking Marajuana. Thinking back now, I have no idea what was in the grass I had smoked as it was purchased from a local person in town. After about the 6th time of experiencing this new found pastime the slight ringing I had present went from a 2-3 on the dial to about an 8-9. It totally messed me up. I have never touched any type of street drug since except what was prescribed by the doctor. What I experienced from my last little encounter with grass changed my life. I could no longer tolerate noise to any great degree and now had a serious constant noise in my head to deal with. It was a real wake up call with respect to the fact I was not the invincible young man I thought myself to be.
Smoking the marijuana almost certainly acted as a trigger for your tinnitus. Perhaps it was just the stress of smoking it in the first place, but if that did not trigger it, something certainly would have.
The important thing to understand is the your tinnitus was caused from exposure to loud noises, which most likely caused cochlea damage. When this happens high frequency hearing loss and tinnitus is common.
It was then I found out Tinitus was incurable by my Doctor. To say I was devistated would be an understatement. I ended taking Vallium at his urging which did nothing but make me into a walking Zoombie. His idea of treatment was masking it rather than trying to minimizse it. After several months of taking Vallium daily I managed to kick this medical fiasco and get through my days without assistance. Since then I have tried acu puncture, hypnosis, ear candling, a Choirorprator and several other prescription drugs designed to possibly assist in controlling Tinitus. Hypnosis was the only thing somewhat of a help.
I began to limit my noise exposure since that “bad time” at the age of 16 and use hearing protection whenever nesessary. I also began to educate myself somewhat on the problem. The more I learned the less hope I had of ever living a life without Tinitus. I have tried to maintain myself in good physical shape and excercised regularily most of my life so as to live it to the best and fullest standard possible. At the age of 35 I was subject to an industrial accident during which a co worker inadvertantly released a high pressure air hose next to my head. The noise was extreme and my right ear had blood vessels ruptured in behind the eardrum. To make a long story short the Tinitus got worse again.
Here I am now 48 years of age and have suffered from Tinitus most of my life. Several months ago, when arriving at my home airport from work I was subject to yet another damaging encounter with noise. This time I had just cleared Immigration and walked into the lobby to meet my wife and a jackhammer kicks into action in the area. They were doing upgrades at the airport. The noise was extreme and I got out of there as soon as possible. It was not a long time exposure but it increased my Tinitus once again. (mainly in my right ear) It was after this time that I got into contact with you.
Often sudden exposure to loud noise can cause damage and this could most certainly result in a higher intensity of the levels of your tinnitus.
This last little episode has done me harm and I really don’t know for sure if your remedy has aggravated the problem…. or if it is just because I am still suffering the new effects of the noise exposure at the airport. I would like to think your remedy would not cause the problem to worsen but need your advice on this. It would be a shame to stop taking this if there is a chance it may help me over a period of time. Please understand am super worried about doing ANYTHING that will make my problem worse.
As you are well aware this is a difficult way to live. I have a wife and 21 year old son, both of who I love dearly. If it were not for them, my Dad and Religous views suicide would look much more appealing than dealing with this. I only tell you this to give you a clear perspective on my thoughts.
Dear BW,
I really know how you feel! I went through much the same sort of traumatic time.
- All I can tell you that you CAN get through this, but it will take patience, persistence and a positive attitude on your part. I can honestly say that these days tinnitus is no longer a factor in my life!
- This is not to say I no longer have tinnitus, just that it no longer bothers me. I simply no longer conscious of it every moment of the day and night.
- So please do not give up! You sound as if you have a lot to live for!
To protect you privacy I have purposely deleted the name and contact details.
