You may have heard about an implant that can help mask or eliminate the ringing sounds of tinnitus. What you’re likely thinking of is a cochlear implant. This is a device that is created for people with profound hearing loss in both ears. This implant consists of an electrode array that is placed via surgery into the inner ear, a small microphone as well as a speech processor.

Together, this device is meant to restore hearing to people who are clinically and functionally deaf. Tinnitus is a common thing in deaf people of all ages. When the cochlear implant is successful and it allows the deaf person to hear some external sounds, it usually reduces tinnitus symptoms for that person.

Tinnitus often occurs with people who are deaf either completely or partially. If even some level of hearing can be restored, it usually improves the tinnitus for the person who is suffering. If you just have tinnitus with no hearing loss, it is not likely that you would be a candidate for a cochlear implant as this is not what the implant is designed for.

In fact, it is only a small percentage of people with tinnitus who qualify for the use of these implants. However, there is good news because there are other types of treatments and devices that can help such as hearing aids, sound generators or maskers and also combination units of maskers and hearing aids together.

Much research is still being done in the field and to help create new devices and possible future implants that can help tinnitus sufferers. For now cochlear implant for tinnitus is mainly only used for certain special cases with severe hearing loss. So as you can see, cochlear implants are not for everyone but there are still other options you can and should consider if you suffer from tinnitus with or without hearing loss.

Do you suffer from mild or moderate tinnitus? Are you searching for a way to find relief? Perhaps tinnitus emedicine is the answer you’ve been searching for. As if tinnitus in itself isn’t enough of a burden to deal with, it can also cause many other problems. When the noises are keeping you distracted, it can cause problems in your job, your relationship and every aspect of your life.

It’s difficult to hold a normal conversation with a constant ringing or other noise in your ears. It’s hard to stay focused on any task whether it’s at work or home. These are some of the reasons why finding ways to get rid of this problem or at the very least make it more bearable, is so important.

Since tinnitus is actually a symptom of some underlying condition, it can be difficult to find the cause and some people never do. Fortunately, there are options that can help you live with this condition and make it more tolerable for many people. Tinnitus emedicine is a great place to start. Treatments that you find online for this condition will usually be less expensive than other forms of treatments.

In many cases, emedicines found online provide more relieve than other methods prescribed by your family physician. This is because they are created by other tinnitus sufferers and/or medical researchers focusing primarily on this condition. You can find many natural techniques that are easy to use that may be able to provide the relief you’re searching for. Using natural techniques is preferred by many because you don’t have to worry about side effects. If the tinnitus comes back, you know you have good options available that really work, which puts your mind at ease.

If your tinnitus is mild or moderate in nature, using tinnitus emedicine may very well be what you’ve been searching for. It’s certainly something worth checking into since it’s a real possibility that you’ll find something that works for you.

Yes, there are medicines that cause tinnitus, and you may be taking one of them. There are over 200 drugs that potentially bring about ear ringing, a number way higher than the number of drugs being used to treat the condition. This should not cause panic, though, as people have different reactions to different medications. And, they usually have adverse effects only when taken for a long a period of time and in large doses.

The drugs that are harmful to the ears are also known as ototoxic drugs. Besides ringing in the ears, they may also result to hearing loss and disequilibrium such as dizziness and vertigo, which are related to the workings of the cochlea or vestibular (balance) structures in the ear.

There are six main types of medication that result to ringing in the ears:

Aspirin is one, and its side effects are generally seen after a person has been taking six to nine pills a day. Usually, the ear ringing will reverse itself after you stop taking the medication.

Then there are the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, examples of which include Advil, Aleve, Anaprox, Clinoril, Feldene, Indocin, Lodine, Motrin, Nalfon, Nuprin, Poradol, and Voltarin.

Antibiotics are also known culprits. They are more likely to have ototoxic effects when they are given through an IV, which usually happens during a life-threatening situation in which large doses are needed. Included are Aminoglycosides (Streptomycin, Neomycin, Kanamycin, Netilmicin), Erythromycin (E-mycin, Eryc, Ilosone), and Vancomycin (Vincocin).

Diuretics such as Bumetanide, Ethacrynic acid, and Furosemide, when taken in overly large doses for extended periods of time, can also bring about tinnitus. Chemotherapy agents can also have the same effect. Examples are Bleomycin, Cisplatin, Mechlorethamine, Methotrexate, and Vincristine.

Then there is quinine – Aralen, Atabrine (for treatment of malaria), Legatrin, and Q-Vel Muscle Relaxant (for treatment of night cramps).

If you think that it is your medication that causes the ringing in your ears, go see your doctor first before taking any further actions. Your doctor may ask you to stop taking that medication and prescribe you with another one that does not have ototoxic effects.

While there are medicines that cause tinnitus, there are also drugs used as tinnitus relief agents that may worsen the unwanted sound. Antidepressants, for instance, are used by ear ringing sufferers to control and manage stress. And, they may, although not necessarily, aggravate the condition.

iPods Can Cause Dramatic Increases In Inner Ear Infections And Tinnitus

Researchers have revealed information that affects hundreds of millions of people around the world. The Ipod from Apple was known to cause major hearing loss and tinnitus from the exposures to the loud noise, but recent research reveals that in addition to this problem is the huge bacterial increase in the inner ears amongst iPod users which is causinf inner ear infections.

“iPOD earpieces are a breeding ground for bacteria and could lead to painful ear infections,” experts said yesterday.

Doctors have long warned that listening to music at high volumes on iPod buds could lead to hearing loss but now they have proved the earpieces are also rife with germs.

A study published in the Online Journal of Health and Allied Sciences has revealed that frequent use of earphones significantly increases bacterial growth in the ear.

Researchers at Manipal university in India also found that bacteria could transfer from one person’s ear to another’s.

Harmful bacteria was found on 92 per cent of ear swabs taken from people who regularly shared their earphones with friends, compared with only eight per cent of those who shared less frequently.

Dr Chiranjay Mukhopadhyay, who led the research, said: “It is better not to share or else to clean the earphones thoroughly before sharing.”

A second study into airplane audio headsets, published in the medical journal Laryngoscope, discovered that, after an hour’s use, the number of bacteria increased from 60 micro-organisms to 650.

Ear infections have been proven to be a major cause of tinnitus according to the tinnitus survey we conducted amongst 1,800 tinnitus patients in September 2008.

A person who suffers from tinnitus, or ringing ears, may now choose from different modes of ringing ears treatment, and put a stop to the persistent, irritating noise. Those who prefer treating their disorder with the appropriate medications, usually end up doing well in the end, as compared to those who do nothing and quietly suffer from the incessant ringing of their ears.

Individuals who suffer from ringing ears should carefully choose the treatment options that offer the highest probability of fully healing the disorder. Choose a ringing ears treatment mode that will effectively control the level of ringing in your ears. Probably the best thing to do initially, would be to accurately pinpoint the exact causes of the discomfort in the ears.

It’s important that we clearly identify the main causes for the ringing in the ears, if only to be of assistance as well to the future victims of this health disorder. According to medical experts, among the identified root causes of this condition are excessive ear wax, head or neck injuries, ear infections, a hole in the ear drum, exposure to loud noise, intake of ototoxic drugs, meniere’s disease and ear tumors.

Doctors also note that an ear infection can result from simple nose problems, which could be due to the onset of an allergic reaction. This type of allergy however, can be avoided if the individual exercises prompt precaution and proper treatment. Bacterial infections as well may cause ringing ears, especially if the individual has a weak immune system.
