Meniere’s Disease

By julius On November 5, 2008 Comments Off

Do you often have sensation of spinning or swaying, dizziness, fullness in the ear along with tinnitus and sensorineural hearing loss? Then maybe you are suffering from Meniere’s disease. The disorder is caused by an increase in volume and pressure of the fluid contained in the membranous labyrinth of the inner ear which also results to nausea and vomiting and tinnitus.

Until today, the cause of the Meniere’s disease is still unknown. There are presumptions that the disease is associated with abnormal flow of blood and fluids in the system, allergies, viral infection and other health problems. Several factors are found to activate Meniere’s disease including stress, fatigue, over work, emotional and physical stress, pressure changes, classified foods, and too much salt in the diet.
While I’m writing this article, I found out that frequent attack of Meniere’s disease is awful. It causes cochlear damage and kills the hair cells in the inner ear which performs a vital role in hearing. The hair cell cells are responsible for translating the sound into electric signals that nerves transmit to the brain. Once the hair cells are damaged, it can no longer be repaired.

While there are ongoing researches on the Meniere’s disease, there is still no cure developed for the disorder. There are medical and invasive surgical procedures that are being attempted but most of the attempts ended vain. Some of patients who prefer natural treatments which include change in lifestyle and diet have helped in reduction of Meniere’s disease attacks as well as tinnitus.

There are also Meniere’s disease remedies and natural vertigo relief treatments in line with T-gone remedies to cure tinnitus. The remedies are homeopathic preparation created to heal the body from within. It is also a multifaceted approach since the causes of the ringing sensation are numerous such as vertigo, and cochlear damage. Taking the remedies and following a recommended diet can drastically trim down tinnitus associated with Meniere’s disease

Reports have it that about 1 in 100 people suffer tinnitus – that constant buzzing or clicking in the ear which should not be dreaded as a disease. Being such, it is a symptom that still calls for medical attention. The ringing sensation that occurs in either ear or both, is not imaginary, it is real. It may not be a serious problem, but it is troublesome to those who suffer the condition. Day-time activities make the deafening sensation less noticeable, but tinnitus at night may seem louder since the surroundings are quiet.

While the cause of tinnitus remains unknown, exposure to noise such as emanating from loud music or firearms presents serious effects. Medications or drug side effects are another culprit. A patient even acquired it from large doses of aspirin which eventually caused some nerve damage. There is a limited option for tinnitus but studies show it can be averted. For instance, when exposed to loud noise, the sufferer is advised to wear a hearing protection. Other causes like earwax buildup can also be taken care of by simply removing the excessive earwax.

Tinnitus Caused By Ear Wax

By julius On October 31, 2008 Comments Off

The earwax buildup is one of most common problems in the ear that causes ear irritation, loss of hearing or even tinnitus. The presence of earwax in the ear in normal amount serves as coating in the skin of the ear. It also helps to trap water, dirt, foreign particles from penetrating the ear. Earwax has high acid level that acts as antibacterial substance preventing the ear from infection and other ear problems.

The ear has a self-cleaning ability that in ideal conditions, you should never clean your ears. However, the ear may produce disproportionate amount of wax for different reason, such as narrowing of the ear canal, skin, bone or connective tissue. The accumulated wax blocks the ear canal and hampers hearing capability. The sounds registered in the eardrum are misinterpreted and sometimes interpret sound that actually doesn’t exist.

Cleaning of the ear promotes better hygiene. Usually, we attempt to remove the earwax using cotton swabs. This cleaning effort simply pushes the wax deeper and impacts into the ear canal  towards the eardrum causing a blockade. Some attempts also include the use of pointed objects such as hair pins, ballpen or pencil inserted in the ear canal risking further damage to the cochlea or even result in punctured eardrum.

Tinnitus caused by earwax can be treated by removing the unnecessary wax in the ear. In home remedies, irrigation for earwax removal is one favorable approach. This is done by irrigating a mixture of water, vinegar and peroxide warm to body temperature. Drop a few amount of the solution into the ear and let it stay for minutes and drain by tilting your head. The earwax becomes softer and easier to remove. If the tinnitus treatment doesn’t work, you can visit your ENT and ask favor to remove the excess wax.
