Ear Wax Causes Tinnitus

By julius On December 23, 2008 2 Comments

There have been around a million of people experiencing and suffering from tinnitus. This number is also in its rise and is continually growing each day. This kind of hearing disorder is a perception in the ear or hearing different kinds of sounds without the presence of an external source. Oftentimes the cause is exposure to loud music or noise. Sometimes it is also being brought about by severe ear infection. This way, ear wax can be a great factor for such infection and ringing in the ear.

The build up of ear wax causes tinnitus and various sounds which sometimes can be perceived by the tinnitus sufferer as a drumming or whooshing sound. Also, aside from the sounds that can be heard, there is dull hearing and a painful ache inside the ear.

The presence of ear wax inside the ear is normal and healthy. Some people look at it as some dirt that needs to be removed or taken out. This is a common misconception among most people. Earwax has a vital role in our ability to hear. It protects our ear drum from foreign particles that may continue to go inside the ear canal. It traps the dust, foreign particles and water and refrains them from penetrating and infecting the ear drum.

Our bodies work in wonders. As for our ears, they have their own self cleaning ability. So there is no need to clean our ears every now and then.

Most people somehow have this habit of cleaning their ears daily or almost every time due to the feeling of dirt inside it. This act of being obsessive-compulsive manner may put the auditory nerves and the ear in danger. Even using cotton swabs may be dangerous since it could push off the ear wax way down into the ear canal resulting to a compacted ear drum. This in turn results to more aggravated conditions like tinnitus.

As for those who have reached the point of experiencing the hearing disorder brought about by tinnitus ear wax may seek medical help so as to find the appropriate treatment. Many tinnitus treatments, therapies and remedies can also be of use to patients suffering from such medical condition.

What is Loudness

By julius On December 23, 2008 Comments Off

In today’s busy world, many people have been disregarding the health and condition of their hearing sense. Evidence of such is the excessive use of gadgets that may harm our ears and our sense of hearing. Using cellular phones and IPods all day without rest strains our auditory nerves. Also, mechanical and many work tools often emit very loud noises that may hurt our ears. People may seem to forget and not care with what is loudness and how it affects our ability to hear.

Our ear is known to be one of the most delicate and sensitive parts of our body. Inside it is a thin membrane called the eardrum which divides the middle and outer ear. When we hear sounds or noise, these sound waves travel through the auditory canal and hit the eardrum, causing it to vibrate. Upon doing this, the signals are then sent to the brain for interpretation. If we stress out and deliver very loud sounds inside our ear, the vibration of our eardrums may cause damage to our hearing. This is then the beginning of having hearing disorders like experiencing hearing loss or having tinnitus.

Tinnitus is the more common hearing disorder people are experiencing. It is a condition wherein you hear a ringing in the ears. If your ear is exposed to very loud noise constantly, then you would probably end up experiencing a humming or buzzing sound in your ear even in quiet places.

There is no cure for people who have lost their sense of hearing nor to those who have tinnitus. There are however, ways and means to hear again and to get used to the effects of tinnitus. Wearing of a hearing aid helps a lot for people having trouble or difficulty in listening. Most tinnitus sufferers also have problems with hearing and so could resort to using a hearing aid. Adjusting to what is loudness may seem to be a hard task once you have your hearing impaired.

Making use of tinnitus maskers can also help in drowning out the tinnitus sound. However, prevention is indeed better than cure. So always bear in mind what is loudness and how it can affect your hearing and probably the quality of your life.

Ear Pulsing

By julius On December 18, 2008 1 Comment

Hearing various sounds inside your own ear can be considered as tinnitus. Tinnitus refers to the noise or ringing in the ears. The sounds varies from a ringing down to a sensation of having your ear pulsing.

Tinnitus has been found to be a common problem among people nowadays. By then, only older people are expected to have experienced tinnitus. However, nowadays, people of the younger generation are also affected by such. The main cause of such hearing disorder is the exposure and further damage of the auditory nerves due to loud noise.

Noise has been proven to be the most common cause of tinnitus, however, there are also other factors that can contribute to such result. Bodily disorder like hypertension, heart murmur, glomus tumor, Eustachian tube disorder and many others can be a more specific cause for a special kind of hearing disorder known as pulsatile tinnitus.

From the name itself, it clearly speaks of the pulse as a main characteristic in this specific kind of tinnitus. Pulsatile tinnitus gives off a sensation of an ear pulsing sound that can be heard only by the person having it.

Pulsatile tinnitus is caused mainly by a change in blood flow in the large arteries and veins in the neck, the base of the skull, or the smaller blood vessels inside the ear. Although it had been studied that there is still no known cure for tinnitus, this specific kind however has its own cure and treatment.

The treatment of pulsatile tinnitus is related to its specific cause. Like for example, when the proven cause of the ear pulsing sound is due to increased blood flow coming from a high blood pressure, then the treatment would be for the high blood pressure. By treating the high blood pressure and making it stable again, it would then stop the beating sound inside the ear.

Treatment for pulsatile tinnitus usually involves a disciplined approach which includes a variety of symptom management methods. Drug therapy, alternative treatments, relaxation sessions or homeopathic tinnitus remedies can be of great use in soothing the tinnitus patient from the annoying and stress inducing ear pulsing sound.

Constant Ring in Ear

By julius On December 10, 2008 Comments Off

This feeling or sensation of a constant ring in ear that seems to be bothering you is medically termed as tinnitus. It is the perception of a sound in one ear or sometimes in both ears even when there is no external sound that is actually happening.

Tinnitus is a hearing disorder. It is not a disease in itself. Instead, it should be thought of and treated as a symptom to a bigger problem or underlying medical condition. It has a higher probability that the underlying medical condition has got something to do with the auditory function since the ear is the main part that is affected.

When tinnitus results from spasm or painful reaction of one of the two muscles attached to the middle ear bones, or that of the Eustachian tube, then this is a case of muscular tinnitus. Muscular tinnitus is more of a subjective kind of tinnitus because once the muscles in the ear part or that of the neck are inflamed, it also leads to the inner ear being inflamed. When this happens, the sensation of ringing ears would be present, thus the symptom tinnitus.

Other forms of tinnitus would be pulsatile tinnitus, vascular tinnitus, and many others. The first one mentioned is termed as such because of the beating sound the same to that of the pulse. The latter is somehow the same since it mainly revolves around the veins and arterial parts of the body. These two and all the other kinds of tinnitus have one thing in common, and that is the effects or outcome of having such hearing disorder.

Tinnitus brings about stress. This is one of the most common effects of tinnitus. In some cases, tinnitus is chronic. This means that tinnitus attacks may come and go for a very long period of time.  Because of such, this may well lead to depression and can make the experience of tinnitus or having to hear the ear ringing noises bothersome.

Because of such case, it is recommended that proper medical attention be given and tinnitus treatments or remedies such as antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications be considered. This is done so as to relieve the stress that comes from tinnitus.

Tinnitus Frequencies

By julius On December 10, 2008 3 Comments

The extensive use of digital toys and tools such as cellular phones, IPods and many other gadgets can lead to hearing disorders like tinnitus and probably hearing loss. Studies have shown that exposure to such noise and constant high level sounds can cause permanent damage to our auditory nerves and thus our sense of hearing. This is alarming news, but somehow people nowadays tend to forget such issue and fail to give importance to it.

Tinnitus is a hearing disorder that enables a person to hear a ringing in the ears. Aside from ringing, other sounds are buzzing, beating, whooshing and sometimes crackling. These sounds may be all too simple and would lead one to think that it wouldn’t be of great effect to a person’s health. This is a terrible and yet common misconception.

Imagine having to hear a constant sound in your ears that only you can hear even when you are already in bed late at night. Most patients of tinnitus profess that such sounds would be the main reason why they cannot sleep at night. This would then probably lead to stress and fatigue.

The ringing sound that you hear inside your ear has a certain frequency. Tinnitus frequencies are measured and used by doctors and specialists in trying to come up with the correct medication to be used in curing the tinnitus. To some, the higher tinnitus frequency is quite alarming since it would then possibly lead to hearing loss in no time.

Despite this alarming news, there are still many possible ways of avoiding this hearing disorder. Using ear plugs may be able to help avoid having tinnitus. This is because the ear plugs are great in protecting your ears from harsh and loud noises that all too often surround us everyday.

However, if you are already experiencing tinnitus, many tinnitus masking treatments are available to help drown out the annoying ringing sound. This technique makes use of soothing and relaxing sounds that can help in covering up the annoying sound brought about by tinnitus. For most people, this kind of therapy has been found to be effective and also calming.
