Tinnitus Treatment-Stop Those Annoying Sounds In Your Head

By jeffreyb On July 10, 2009 No Comments

Tinnitus is usually perceived as an annoying sound in the ear, more commonly a ringing sound that occurs even without the presence of any form external sound. About 40% of the American population is said to have experienced the symptom at least once in their life time. Tinnitus can range from slight to highly distressing symptom and can even lead to hearing loss.

Basically tinnitus is graded as Subjective tinnitus or Objective tinnitus and can be intermittent or continuous in occurrence.

Subjective tinnitus means the sound can only be perceived by the individual but not by any kind of diagnostic tests. Objective tinnitus  can be picked up by audiometric tests. However, whatever the case may be, there is no definite medical treatment that brings relief to this symptom. Few people get tinnitus relief by altering eye, jaw, neck or shoulder movements, and sometimes the doctor may prescribe some ear medications to ease the pain if any, but to date there is no definite traditional cure for that annoying sound.

This sound can occur due to simple reasons such as hearing high pitched loud noise all of a sudden or by pressure difference during long haul flights, ear infections or may be because of some serious underlying illness such as tumour or arterial aneurysm. It is always best to get a physician opinion to rule out any form of serious illness. If there is no underlying illness, the main form of tinnitus treatment is by ‘masking’, like hearing music while going to sleep or by diverting attention from hearing the sound.

What is Tinnitus and how to prevent Tinnitus?

By John On June 4, 2009 No Comments

What is Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a disorder of the years that is becoming  quite common among young people. People usually find it hard to recognize the symptoms of tinnitus during the initial stages. A person suffering from tinnitus would  hear noises such as ringing or buzzing or some other noises that are not actually present. Often, when a person is constantly exposed to loud noises they would be prone to the tinnitus disorder.

People like construction workers who are exposed to loud hammering noises and people who are working in the music industry who would have to sit close to loud speakers will also develop hearing loss . iPods and Bluetooth equipment if not used properly and at a safe sound setting will also lead to hearing loss and tinnitus. Wearing hearing plugs and taking protective measures while you are exposed to loud sounds is necessary to prevent tinnitus. There are various medicinal and non medicinal tinnitus treatments.

It is always better to prevent tinnitus rather thansearching for the best tinnitus cure. Reducing the sound of your walkman, ipod or Bluetooth prevents the disorder and provides tinnitus relief. Loud sounds close to your years are very destructive and damage your inner years causing disorders like tinnitus.

Overcoming Hearing Aid Fears: The Road to Better Hearing

Overcoming Hearing Aid Fears: The Road to Better Hearing
by John M. Burkey

Hearing loss is no longer a problem our grandparents suffer from. Instead we, the baby boomers of the world, have become the grandparents and with it come the natural, although uncomfortable subject of hearing loss. Almost everyone loses some of their hearing over time and John M. Burkey, author, suggests that we could improve our lives and the lives of people around us (some of whom we love dearly) by getting used to the idea that we might need a hearing aid as we mature.

I found it interesting that he would author a book on hearing loss, but then again I figure it is smart. I’m sure a large majority of people who purchase books on Amazon, either hard back or through their Kindle, are of an age when they have to start dealing with the stark reality that our bodies are not young anymore. The way we lived our lives, loud cars, work places and music, is going to affect our hearing. This is, almost, a certainty. If you, or someone you know and love is suffering from natural hearing loss, don’t just nag, give them some good information to digest. My review of the writing style of Burkey found it easy to understand and quick to read.
